TrendForce said that all four iPhone 16 series models use TSMC’s new A18 and A18 Pro processors with a 3nm process, breaking the previous practice of using the previous generation of processors. This change may be related to processor cost considerations. The DRAM capacity of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus has been upgraded, which means that the capacity of the four new models has reached LPDDR5X 8GB to support Apple Intelligence functions.

Apple Intelligence is a highlight of this year’s iPhone 16 series. At the same time, Apple is also working hard to improve the accuracy of Siri and cooperate with ChatGPT to improve AI performance.

From the cost of the new machine, the total cost has increased slightly due to the increase in memory prices over the past year. However, considering the overall downward trend in the smartphone market, Apple is expected to continue to adopt a cautious pricing strategy. TrendForce pointed out that the US dollar pricing of the four new models launched this year is still expected to be on par with the iPhone 15 series, or slightly increased due to increased costs, in order to boost sales of new machines while maintaining profitability. Among them, the iPhone 16 Pro is equipped with a periscope lens, and its pricing may follow the strategy of last year’s Pro Max, raising the basic capacity starting point to 256GB, thereby diluting the impression of price increases by increasing capacity.

TrendForce predicts that the total output of Apple’s four new models will reach 86.7 million units in the second half of 2024, an increase of nearly 8% year-on-year. In terms of total production in 2024, Samsung, currently ranked first, and Apple, ranked second, are quite close. It is not ruled out that Apple has the opportunity to surpass Samsung by the end of the year and become the first in the annual smartphone production market share for the first time.
