At 1 a.m. Beijing time on September 10, Apple officially held its autumn new product launch conference called “It’s Glowtime”. At this conference, the most popular product was undoubtedly the new generation of iPhone – iPhone 16 series. The first to appear were the standard version and Plus version, with a starting price of US$799 and US$899 respectively.
From the appearance, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are not much different from the previous generation. The biggest difference is the newly added action button that was only equipped with the previous generation Pro models, which means that this feature has become standard on the iPhone 16 series. At the same time, the new machine is equipped with a photo button across the board to further enhance the iPhone’s photo-taking experience. The new machine is equipped with a 48-megapixel main camera and a new 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. The former supports 2x lossless cropping and the latter supports macro shooting. Another major change in appearance is the layout of the camera module, which has changed from the previous diagonal layout to a vertical layout, which enables it to shoot spatial videos for Vision Pro.
The iPhone 16 is available in five colors: ultramarine, dark cyan, pink, white, and black. In terms of screen size, the standard version of the iPhone 16 is equipped with a 6.1-inch screen, while the Plus screen is 6.7 inches. The new panel is 50% harder, with a maximum brightness of 2000nit in sunlight and a minimum of 1 nit.
The A18 chip appears in all iPhone 16 models, which also enables the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to support the Apple Intelligence features that will be launched in the latest iOS 18. The standard version is equipped with a new A18 chip, a 16-core neural network unit, a second-generation 3nm process, a 6-core CPU, which is 30% faster than the iPhone 15; a 5-core GPU, which is 40% faster than the iPhone 15. The new phone also optimizes the internal layout, improves heat dissipation, and enhances the gaming performance of the iPhone 16. The new phone will also support satellite communications.
