According to the page information, 780,000 people in Tmall Huawei’s official flagship store have added Mate XT to their shopping carts. Although they cannot place orders directly for the time being, users have shown great interest. Taobao’s hot search data shows that the search popularity of Huawei’s three-fold mobile phone has increased by 127% compared with before.
Huawei users’ enthusiastic anticipation for this new phone has given scalpers a huge business opportunity. On some second-hand trading platforms, the scalper premium for Mate XT is very considerable, with the overall price fluctuating between 30,000 and 66,000 yuan. Some links to the Mate XT 16GB + 1TB version are priced at 19,999 yuan, which is actually an additional markup on top of the original price of the phone (23,999 yuan).
On other platforms, the price of Mate XT has been hyped up to at least 20,000 to 30,000 yuan, and as much as 80,000 to 90,000 yuan or even hundreds of thousands of yuan. Some sellers even marked it at a high price of 9.9999 million yuan.
In an interview, Chen Jun, deputy general manager and chief analyst of Sigmaintell, pointed out that Huawei was the first in the industry to release a tri-fold mobile phone. Based on the current production yield and supply chain inventory, the global sales of tri-fold mobile phones are expected to be about 200,000 units in 2024.
