According to the latest rumors, Apple will introduce a new camera-dedicated “capture button” in some of this year’s iPhone 16 models, and Apple’s own silicone protective case will be specially designed to ensure that the multiple functions of this capacitive button are not affected.
Multiple sources claim that the iPhone 16 series will be equipped with this new button to make it easier for users to take photos in landscape mode. The button will be located on the right side of the iPhone. As a capacitive button, it not only supports a variety of gestures, but also responds differently based on pressure, providing more refined control for photography.
A whistleblower recently shared a picture of a third-party silicone protective case on social media X. The protective case shown in the picture has an opening at the expected “capture button” position. He posted that “the official protective case of Apple’s iPhone 16 series will not have this opening, it will be an integrated design, and will not affect the normal use of the capacitive button.”
The “capture button” has been shown in CAD renders and mockups of all four iPhone 16 models, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed last week that the button may be limited to the Pro models.
In addition to the “capture button”, the Pro models of the iPhone 16 series will also be equipped with a slightly larger display, a new A18 chip to support Apple Intelligence functions, and 8GB of memory as standard for the entire series to drive Apple’s AI model.
