On the evening of August 29, CNMO learned that according to “Late Auto”, Tesla plans to launch two modified Model Ys next year, a 5-seat version and a 7-seat version with the internal code name “Juniper”. It is reported that the 5-seat version of Model Y is expected to be delivered in the first quarter, while the 7-seat version is planned to be launched in the fourth quarter.

The purpose of this facelift is to continue the market popularity by fine-tuning the existing popular models, accelerate mass production and reduce capital expenditures by leveraging a mature supply chain. It is worth noting that both facelifted models will be produced at Tesla’s Shanghai factory, where production costs are lower, but the delivery time has been delayed compared to the original plan.

It is expected that the changes to the facelifted Model Y will be similar to those to the Model 3, involving adjustments to the exterior, size, interior, autonomous driving hardware, and battery capacity. The 7-seat Model Y will be adaptively adjusted based on the new version, with a 2-3-2 three-row seat layout, but the specific configuration details have not yet been announced.

In addition, Tesla is also developing a two-box compact version of Model Y, which is scheduled to be released in 2025 and is expected to be officially delivered in 2026. The model was originally planned to be built on Tesla’s next-generation model platform, but has now been adjusted to be based on Model Y.

Tesla will launch a specially customized 7-seat version of Model Y for the Chinese market, which is significantly different from the current version sold in the United States. The specific details have not yet been disclosed. According to people close to Tesla China, this model may be specially optimized for the Chinese market, such as adjusting the wheelbase to accommodate the three-row seat layout to ensure a better riding experience.
